Animal Welfare: What You Can Do
Find out who we are and what you can do
Animal welfare, and its importance, may be something that can come across as a little daunting. This is especially true if its something that you’ve only recently been getting involved in. But, don’t worry, there are many ways that you can offer your support and change the lives of animals across the world.
Sometimes it can seem like an unwinnable battle when it comes to animal welfare. But, the truth is, everything we do on both an individual and societal level is an essential part of tipping the balance away from a world that causes suffering to animals and towards one that offers them love, respect, and empathy instead.
FOUR PAWS and Animal Welfare
One thing you can do when it comes to animal welfare is by supporting our work as an international animal welfare organisation. We operate on a non-governmental level, which sees us promoting and pursuing the importance of animal welfare at a not-for-profit level independently from the Government.
Not only does this mean that we do not rely on Government funding, it also means highlights the importance of the support we get from our communities. So, with things to do in mind, it’s always beneficial to join the fight by supporting an organisation of your choice and then to go from there.
The Importance of Animal Welfare and Your Donations
We know that creating lasting change, or any change for that matter, in the animal welfare sector isn’t easy and requires commitment and consistency. This is why we really value every donation we receive and put it to the best use we can. If you’re looking to help in the fight against animal cruelty, your donation can be placed in many different forms to ensure it works for all involved. This means that you can pick and choose when you want to donate, or, alternatively, you can choose to donate over a long period of time. The choice is yours.
A quick, easy, and simple way for you to engage with animal welfare from the comfort of you own home is through our donation forms. These forms have been carefully constructed to give you freedom. You can choose between a one off or a monthly donation, alongside an option for incremental amounts with a bespoke ‘other’ option for you to choose. We also offer payments through PayPal as an option too. You can find an example here.

When you support animal welfare, what are you supporting?
Animal Welfare: Donating to Our Sanctuaries
Here you find a list of some of our sanctuaries that are currently in operation across the globe. It’s important to note that this is list is not exhaustive. Also, none of these sanctuaries could exist without the donations we receive through our supporters.
BEAR SANCTUARY Mueritz: The biggest bear sanctuary in Western Europe
Currently the home of 15 brown bears, BEAR SANCTUARY Mueritz has been under the management of FOUR PAWS since 2006. All of these bears were rescued from captivity and now are able to live out the rest of their lives in a species appropriate forest environment on a 16-hectar site. Life has never looked better for them.
BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach: An animal-friendly home for abused bears since 1998
The bears at BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach used to suffer at the ends of the circus industry, or were owned privately and kept in unsuitable conditions. Now, they are able to live out their lives in a 14,000 square metre haven. Thanks to animal welfare donations, the 6 bears are able to enjoy a second shot at happiness.
Our LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary was previously a park and was taken over by FOUR PAWS in 2006. It was named after a prominent rock in the centre of the area called “Lionsrock”, the sanctuary offers a home to over 100 animals which are mainly big cats. They were rescued from zoos, the entertainment industry, or private captivity.
Big Cat Centre FELIDA: Our FOUR PAWS rescue centre for big cats in the Netherlands
Our FELIDA sanctuary provides a caring home to big cats, such as tigers and lions (Currently 1 tiger and 5 lions). Although these rescue animals come from a range of different backgrounds, including circuses, private keeping and war-torn zoos, they all share a difficult start in life. In FELIDA, thanks to animal welfare supporters, they receive the specialised care to help them live much deserved happy lives.
These are just a few of the sanctuaries that we are able to sustain thanks to those who choose to donate to invest in the importance of animal welfare. You can find out more about our other sanctuaries here, as the list above is not exhaustive.
