From the Cage to the Couch: Rescues of the Trade
Your support is helping us to #ProtectMillions
It’s always important to celebrate victories, no matter how big or small. This is why we’re taking the time to celebrate the recent rescues that have taken place to save some of the dogs and cats from the living hell of the dog and cat meat trade. We’re sure you’ll agree with us that in this case, every rescue is certainly a big victory to celebrate.
Thanks to our supporters, we’re able to stay in the fight to take on the seemingly insurmountable dog and cat meat trade that is rife across Southeast Asia. For us, our teams, and the supporters who back us, ‘seemingly’ is a key word in that sentence. From shutting down slaughterhouses to rehoming animals that were once destined for a certain and brutal death, we’re starting to shine a light in the dark.
So, we warmly welcome you to join us in reflecting on the animals that now have a second chance at happiness thanks to the love, support, and dedication of our supporters (if you’re a Marvel fan, you may recognise some of the names):
Stan Lee
Stan is super sweet. He gets along great with people, and he just loves to give kisses! This two year old was named after Stan Lee, the American comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer who developed the Marvel Comics and superhero universe. He is a #SlaughterhouseSurvivor who was rescued along with 61 other dogs enroute to a slaughterhouse in Cambodia.
T’Challa
T’Challa is super easy going. This two and half year old was rescued from the dog and cat meat trade, and he would love to find his forever family in America. This sweet boy was named after the king of Wakanda, who has the alter ego, Black Panther.
Nebula
Nebula is a friendly young dog who loves people. He is eight months old, and another #slaughterhousesurvivor from Cambodia. Nebula is named after the character from the Marvel Universe, and constantly shows himself to be a superhero!
Vision
Vision is a friendly female pup who has the cutest shock of gray hair on her head! She is just over 18 months old and was also saved in a dramatic rescue from the dog meat trade earlier this year. Vision is named after the Marvel Universe character, who is most often associated with the Avengers, and though Vision is a male in the fictional world, our canine Vision brings some fun female energy to the group!
Chance
Chance is a sweet girl who is often found with a smile on her face. She likes people, but she’s a bit scared of other dogs. This one-and-a-half-year-old pup was able to #EscapeTheTrade with help from her friends at FOUR PAWS. Chance was named through a Facebook poll by FOUR PAWS supporters.
Chippie
Chippie is a very gentle boy who is sweet with humans. He is seven and a half months old, and he gets along well with most dogs. When Chippie was first rescued from the slaughterhouse, he was very skinny, but he has always had a good appetite, and he increased his bodyweight quickly. This boy is in great shape now!
Sandy
Meet Sandy! This one-year-old female is a real sweetheart. She is nice and friendly with both people and other dogs. Sandy enjoys taking naps in her crate, and she likes to take her time when eating, enjoying each bite.
Sanford
Sanford is an eleven-month-old male, and we are just in love with his freckles! He is a gentle boy who gets along well with other dogs.
Sammy
This eight-month-old girl is very friendly and nice with people and other dogs. Though Sammy has a traumatic past, she shows no signs of any resentment and enjoys happily playing with her fellow pups, like her good friend Gadget!
Gadget
This beautiful girl is eight-months-old and as sweet as can be. She is friendly with people and gentle with other puppies. She loves to play with fellow #SlaughterhouseSurvivor Sammy!
Maxwell
This ten-month-old boy is very friendly and sweet with both humans and other dogs. He is an all-round great catch! Maxwell also loves to eat, and hes done a great job gaining weight since he was rescued from the slaughterhouse in March.
Duke
This gentle boy gets along great with other dogs. He’d rather run around and play than be cooped up in his crate for too long! Because of his traumatic past at the slaughterhouse, Duke is very cautious around men, and shows that he’s definitely a ladies man!
Agent C
This beautiful girl gets along well with other dogs and is sweet and gentle. Agent C has survived the trauma of the slaughterhouse, and she is understandably a bit fearful of new people. However, our caretakers in Cambodia tell us that once a human has gained her trust, she is friendly and enjoys the company.
Lark
Lark is an eight-month-old female who is very friendly and just adores attention. In fact, she loves her people so much, she wants your attention all the time! Lark also enjoys playing with other dogs as well as her human companions.
Shine
Just look at those soulful eyes! Shine is a gentle girl who takes a little bit of time to warm up to people. On meeting new people she can be a bit timid, but given some time, she soon starts to shine.
Ayaco
Ayaco is very friendly and sweet. She loves to play and enjoys being surrounded by lots of canine playmates.
Browny
Browny loves to cuddle with her people. She’s a very sweet girl, and she loves playing with her buddy and fellow #SlaughterhouseSurvivor Suzie!
Suzie
Suzie is a kind and trusting soul, and she enjoys spending time with both people and other dogs. After being rescued from the slaughterhouse and nursed back to health, Suzie’s caretakers in Cambodia saw more and more glimpses of a playful puppy who is so excited for a second chance at a new life.
Treasure
Treasure loves spending time with people. She’s a little bit unsure of other dogs, but she’d be happy to hang out with her humans all day long!
Albus
Albus is very friendly and sweet with both people and other dogs, and he really enjoys playtime with his canine friends!
Cody
Cody is a real charmer! He is a very energetic boy and loves to play with the other cats and volunteers at @paws.for.compassion_vietnam and @vietnamcatwelfare who have been caring for Cody and all the cats since their rescue. Cody always makes sure to get your attention and affection, and he is always happy to dish out lots of licks to say thank you!
George
George LOVES to play. This was the key to gaining her trust. Even though she didn’t really know how to accept human affection, George knew how to play. Today she has surprised the entire staff at Vietnam Cat Welfare by running and playing with the other cats, and rubbing at everyone's ankles for attention. What a sweetheart! Everyone is so proud of her.
Binh
Binh is a typical playful, sassy Tortishell! Binh absolutely loves to run and climb up trees and anywhere she can play. She is not the best at getting down though and often has to ask for help! Binh is quite a solitary cat and although she likes to run among the other cats, she doesn’t want too much attention from them. She will follow under your ankles and will play with your hands as you stroke her.
Lion and Tiger
These one-year-old brother and sister tabbies are a bonded pair, and are inseparable! Tiger is pretty much the opposite of Lion in personality, being the braver of the two, but they also share similarities in many ways. When rescued, they were very quiet but took solace in having each other for comfort. Over time, their personalities started to shine. Both love all other cats and are not afraid to show their love to others. They also both adore attention. Lion, the girl, is a little more sassy, whereas Tiger, the boy, is just a kind soul who loves his tummy rubbed. Both are gentle and easy cats who are best friends.
Cyndi
After her rescue from the slaughterhouse, Cyndi was very fearful, hissing and making herself very small when people approached her. Cyndi has always got on well with other cats, loving to play with them, but she is a bit slow to trust humans. In Vietnam, Cyndi was transferred to a foster home which could provide her with a quiet environment and time to learn to trust humans again. She started sleeping on her foster mom’s bed, becoming more relaxed each week.
Mittens
Mittens is talkative, affectionate, and sweet. Just look at those beautiful green eyes! After being rescued from the slaughterhouse, Mittens was placed in a foster home in Hoi An, Vietnam where she enjoyed endless playtime, treats and cuddles in bed. She has come out of her once-timid shell and now loves to chat with her new human friends
Talula
Talula has such a sweet nature and would be perfect in a quiet home. After the rescue from the slaughterhouse, Talula was initially quite stressed, but thankfully she was able to build her strength and confidence in people in a quiet foster home . . Now she is becoming more trusting of humans and her personality is starting to emerge.
