BREAKING NEWS: South Africa to stop captive breeding of LIONS

FOUR PAWS UK responds to a landmark decision by the South African Government

4.4.2024

In a landmark decision by the South African Government, the cruel farming of lions in captivity for use in trophy hunting and traditional medicine is set to be banned.

At FOUR PAWS we have been campaigning to end the cruel breeding of lions in captivity for use in trophy hunting and traditional medicine for many years. We are delighted to see the South African Government take action to end this horrific practice. Lions are wild animals, not creatures to be caged in farms and bred only to be killed for sport or have their body parts used in traditional medicine.

There are three times more lions languishing in cages across 350 lion farms in South Africa, compared to an estimated 3500 lions living in the wild. We must #BreakTheViciousCycle.

We hope that other countries in Southern Africa follow suit and recognise that wild animals belongs in the wild, and not in a farm.
