UK big cat owner banned from keeping animals

FOUR PAWS UK responds to breaking news that a man from Hertfordshire has been banned from keeping animals

24.1.2025

Shockingly, around 61 big cats are kept by private keepers all over the UK and this case serves to highlight the inadequate protection, care and keeping conditions within which they are suffering.

Whilst it is a positive outcome that Mr Moore has finally been banned from keeping animals, sadly, it has not come early enough to protect the five animals who were euthanised due to poor health, or the 20 animals found dead in a freezer who suffered at the hands of Mr Moore’s inadequate care.

The private keeping of any wild animal, but especially big cats, is a huge area of concern and we urge the UK Government to review and overhaul the Dangerous Wild Animals Act, that is clearly no longer fit for purpose.
