TROPHY HUNTING (IMPORT PROHIBITION) BILL FALLS IN HOUSE OF LORDS
Country Director, Sonul Badiani-Hamment shares FOUR PAWS dismay at the fall of this much needed legislation in the House of Lords.
On behalf of the over 6,000 at-risk species across the world who would have been positively impacted by the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill, we are devastated that it has fallen in the House of Lords.
After facing delay tactics and filibustering by a handful of backbencher Peers, we retained hope that the Prime Minister would press on with the Bill as promised in his election campaign and ensure the wishes of over 80% of the British public were honoured. FOUR PAWS supporters wrote to the PM in their thousands, MPs across parties unanimously voted the Bill through the Commons, and Peers in the Lords also staunchly defended the legislation, sadly to no avail.
With such widespread support, we hope the Government can now seize control of the agenda in the House of Lords and deliver this legislation as a Government Bill in the next Parliamentary session.
If they act fast, with power and certainty, there is still time for them to deliver on their promises and finally #GetTheBanDone.
